The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Sciences Po targets at supporting 126 talented African students through their studies and to offer the next generation of leaders a world-class social science education, in order for them to become change makers in their respective home countries nationalities. The Mastercard foundation scholars will be awarded for a period of three years for Bachelor’s degree, two years for the Master’s degree and one month for the Summer School.

The scholars program will fund 20 scholarships to complete the Sciences Po Bachelor of Arts programs, Africa specialisation, 46 scholarships to complete a master’s program at one of their seven graduate schools and equally 60 scholarships for Mastercard foundation scholars studying at other partner institution who would like to attend Sciences Po Summer school. Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Sciences Po 2020-2021 Application requirements – General Requirements

On this section is the requirement you must possess in other for you to be able to apply for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Sciences Po 2020 award.

  • Undergraduates Applicants:
    • Applicants must be a residence and citizen of a Sub-Saharan African country;
    • Candidates must be in their final year of high school and not yet started a post-secondary education;
    • Applicants must have a very good level of French and English – minimum level B2
      Applicants who are willing to study in one of the institutions partnered with Sciences Po for the programme and provide a letter of recommendation from this institution;
    • Candidates who have demonstrate a track record of leadership and/or service within your community;
    • Applicants must be able to show that they lack financial means to further higher education.
  • Graduates Applicants:
    • Applicants must be a residence and citizens of Sub-Saharan African;
    • Applicants must have completed your undergraduate studies at a foreign higher education institution and have at least a Bachelor’s degree minimum C1 level in English or French depending on the programme you are applying to
      Applicants who are willing to study in one of the institutions partnered with Sciences Po for the programme and provide a letter of recommendation from this institution (see list of registered partners below);
    • Candidates who have demonstrate a track record of leadership and/or service within your community;
    • Applicants must be able to show that they lack financial means to further higher education.
  • Summer Applicants:
    • Applicants must be a residence and citizens of Sub-Saharan African;
    • You must currently be a Mastercard Foundation scholar at a Mastercard Foundation partner institution;
    • You must be supported by an institution partnered with Sciences Po under the program;
    • Be able to demonstrate a track record of leadership and/or service within your community.

  • The scholarship will be awarded to students from Sub-Saharan African nationalities with an outstanding academic record and strong leadership potential, but who face financial and other barriers to higher education level;
  • The scholarship will be awarded for period of three years for the Bachelor’s degree, two years for Master’s degree and one month for the Summer School;
  • The award will cover full tuition fees cost at Sciences Po and living expenses in France during the study period;
  • Funding for their studies, Sciences Po will also offer students a specific suite of resources to ensure they have appropriate academic support and to facilitate their transition from education to employment such as:
    • 1. An orientation programme and individualised academic advising throughout their studies at Sciences Po
    • 2. A mentor programme offered in collaboration with the Africa Division of Sciences Po Alumni
    • 3. Career guidance and support: an online job portal dedicated to professional opportunities in Africa (internships and first jobs), access to our business incubator and the network of employers and alumni working in Africa, and specific career workshops.

Applicants must apply online on the approved website. There are two mode of application:

  • First, applicants will need to provide personal information and letter of recommendation from the Sciences Po Partner institution which is supporting their application through the Mastercard Foundation Scholars program;
