Wellcome Trust International Masters Fellowships – If you’re an international students, this is your potential chances of enrolling for a study in the United Kingdom. The scheme will be available to nationals of low and middle-income countries and will be giving access to receive training at Master’s degree level.
Information About Wellcome Trust International Masters Fellowships
The goal is to strengthens scientific research capacity in low and middle-income countries, by providing support for junior researchers to gain research experience and high-quality research training at Masters Degree level. Research projects should be targetted at understanding and controlling diseases (either human or animal) of relevance to local, national or global health. This can include labortory based molecular analysis of field or clinical samples, but projects focused solely on studies in vitro or using animal models will not be considered under this scheme.

The Wellcome Trust fellowships is open to Master’s, Fellowship.
Fellowship to be taken in the United Kingdom
Nationals of low and middle-income countries
Up to £120,000 including salary, studentship stipend, fees and research expenses.
This fellowship normally provides up to 30 months support. A period of 12 months should normally be dedicated to undertaking a taught Master’s course at a recognized centre of excellence, combined with up to 18 Months to undertake a research projects.
Eligibility for Wellcome Trust Fellowships
- You can apply for the international Master’s Fellowship If you are nationals of a low-middle income country
- Your proposed research focuses on health priority in a low or middle income country
- You have a sponsporship from an eligible host organisation in a low-or middle income country.
- Hold a clinical or non-clinical undergraduate degree in a relevant subject
- Be at an early stage in your career with limited research experience (but you must have demonstrated interest in, or aptitude for, research)
Your Research Proposal
Your research proposal should be within our science remit and focus on a health priority in a low-or-middle income country.
Your application will be considered if you are into in any of the following:
- Quality and importance of your research questions
- Feasibility of your approach to solving these problems
- Suitability of your choice of research environments
- Suitability of the taught Master of Science (MSc) course you select – it should take place at a recognised centre of excellence and provide you with training that will complement your research project.

Stages of Application
1). To apply
You are advised to check that your application is competitive. Endeavour to read the advice in the “Eligibility and Suitability” section above before you apply online.
You are encouraged to discuss your application with your sponspor and research supervisor. They will give you advice and information about the intellectual quality and importance of your project. Also they will help you in deciding if its right time for you to apply this offer.
You are also encouraged to contact your research office at your host organisation as early as possible in the application process. They should be able to give you information and advice based on:
- How to structure your application, including the budget
- The information needed to support your proposal

2). Your Application Completion
You are advised to login into the online application system Grant Tracker. You must do this at an early stage, so that you can be able know and familiarise yourself with the system.

Please note that you are encouraged to complete every section of the form. Your sponsor and supervisor will be needed to complete some of the sections
3). Your Application Submission to host organisation
As soon as you have completed the application form, endeavour to submit to your host organisation. A person at your host organisation with the role of “Authorised Organisation Approver” will get an automatic email from Wellcome asking them to review and submit the application.
Please make sure you leave enough time for the approver to do this before the closing date of application. The approver may ask you to make changes to your application.
4). Your Host Organisation will submit your application
Your host organisation must submit your application to Wellcome by 17:00 (GMT/BST) on the closing date.
Please note that Wellcome may take up to four months to consider your full application. So if you are not qualified you will be contacted.
5). International Committee will review your application
The international committee will review your application and make the final decision. Please note that there will be no interviews for these fellowship or whatsoever. So of successful, you will take up the fellowship within one year of the award
6). Applicants who are Disabled
Applicants who arw disabled or maybe have chronic health condition, can be supported with the application process.
7). Application Date
Wellcome do consider application twice a year. You must submit your application by 17:00 (GMT/BST) on the closing date. Please note that Wellcome doesn’t accept late applications as there will be busy schedule within the nearing deadline dates.
8). Application deadline
The closing date for application will be 14 April 2020, 17:00 BST. Application decision will be June 2020 for selection of successfully applicants.
